Mission Built

About

We build small neighborhoods and big communities.

We partner with mission-driven organizations to transform underutilized land into vibrant, people-first housing that supports those who heal, train, and serve our communities.

Thriving communities begin at home. When people live near the colleagues, neighbors, and institutions they serve, something remarkable happens — support networks form naturally, connection takes root, and neighborhoods gain the kind of vitality that no development project can manufacture from scratch.

That's why we focus on attainably priced housing in neighborhoods we know and care about — developed on land that mission-driven organizations already own, structured so that no institutional capital is required. Our goal is simple: prove that you can do well in business while doing good for the community. When development is done thoughtfully, everyone wins.

How We Work

We start with the community.

Before we think about returns, we think about the people who will live there. What does this neighborhood need? What will make it better? That question drives every project.

We structure deals to fit the partner.

No two organizations are the same. We offer flexible structures — ground leases, joint ventures, master leases — because the right deal is the one that works for everyone at the table, without requiring institutional capital.

We design for connection.

Pocket neighborhoods, shared courtyards, community programming. Our projects are built around the belief that great design can turn neighbors into a community — and that operations are where that promise is either kept or broken.

We stay accountable.

We operate in neighborhoods we know and care about. That means showing up when it's hard, staying transparent with our partners, and standing behind the places we build — long after the ribbon is cut.

The Team

Alex Lowe

Alex Lowe

Co-Founder

Alex has spent 15 years in East Dallas — first as a commercial broker at CBRE, where he spent six years working directly with healthcare leaders on real estate strategy for hospital campuses across the Metroplex. He co-founded Mission Built to solve the missing middle: creating more opportunities for people to live where they love, and love where they live. He lives in Bryan Place with his wife, daughter Ellie, and two dogs.

Jon Hetzel

Jon Hetzel

Co-Founder

Jon has been a neighbor of East Dallas and Deep Ellum since 2007, through his work with Madison Partners. He specializes in finding older, underutilized properties and transforming them into vibrant spaces — chef-driven restaurants, unique retail, and the kind of local character that gives neighborhoods their identity. He stays connected to the bigger picture through leadership roles with the Deep Ellum Foundation, the Deep Ellum TIF Board, and the Greater Dallas Planning Council.

Lane Lowe

Community Members

East Dallas locals and the most enthusiastic members of the team. Between them, they've logged more miles on the Santa Fe Trail than anyone at Mission Built and have personally vetted every dog-friendly park in the neighborhood.
